Karan Desai

Karan Desai, MD, FACC specializes in general non-invasive cardiology and advanced echocardiography. He currently serves as the Assistant Director of Research at Virginia Heart. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease, adult echocardiography, and internal medicine. Dr. Desai completed his cardiology fellowship and advanced echocardiography training at the University of Maryland Medical Center. 

Prior to joining Virginia Heart, Dr. Desai was on faculty at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and was the Assistant Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he was recognized with multiple teaching awards.

Within Virginia Heart, Dr. Desai is the Assistant Director of Research of Virginia's Heart nationally recognized research program, and specifically helps bring emerging therapies in cholesterol, Lp(a), heart failure and obesity management to patients. Additionally, Dr. Desai provides advanced echocardiography support to both the Structural Heart and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy programs within Inova Schar Heart and Vascular Institute.  

As a cardiologist, Dr. Desai strives to partner with patients to develop individualized treatment plans that best meet each patient’s needs, unique physiology, and life circumstances. 

In his free time, Dr. Desai enjoys traveling and exploring Northern Virginia with his wife and young kids, as well as rooting for all Philadelphia sports teams.
