Virginia Heart Cardiologists Featured in Washingtonian Magazine: Health Hacks
We are proud to share that several Virginia Heart cardiologists were featured in Washingtonian Magazine's January issue in an article by Amy Moeller focused on simple, numbers-based health hacks that can make a big difference.
Each physician shared an easy, practical habit you can start today:
Set aside 20 minutes of "me time" each day. Whether it's a brisk walk, light movement, or meditation, dedicating just 20 minutes to stress relief can help lower stress levels and reduce your risk of heart disease.
Aim for 10 grams of soluble fiber daily. This small habit can reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol by double digits. His go-to foods include oats, chia seeds, berries, and apples. He shares it is, "a small habit with a big payoff."
Adopt the Mediterranean diet. He emphasizes that it's the single most important change you can make for your heart. Your plate should focus mostly on vegetables, paired with lean protein, and a moderate amount of carbohydrates.
Know your numbers. Keeping track of your blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, and blood sugar helps detect early risks and plays a key role in preventing heart disease before problems develop.
These insights reinforce an important message: heart health doesn't need to be complicated. Small, consistent choices, guided by the right numbers, can lead to meaningful, long-term benefits.
We are honored to see our cardiologists recognized and grateful for the opportunity to help our community take simple steps toward better heart health.
