The FDA has approved a new device for the treatment of mild obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring. The eXcite OSA Device is a novel neuromuscular stimulation device used at home which strengthens the intrinsic tongue muscles. In addition, it promotes conversion of type IIB muscle fibers to type I and IIa fibers ultimately treating mild OSA and snoring. By retraining the muscle fibers during the day sessions (20 minutes a day), no devices or therapies are needed during sleep.
