Virginia Heart Introduces Telehealth Appointments

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Virginia Heart is taking every precaution to protect the health and safety of our patients, their families and our staff. With guidance from our local government and healthcare systems, we, as well as most other practices in our area, are replacing in-office visits with Telehealth visits by video conferencing in an effort to decrease COVID-19 exposure. Telehealth visits are covered by Medicare and most insurances. If you require an in-office evaluation and/or testing following your telehealth visit you will still be able to come in, at the discretion of your provider.

Virginia Heart Telehealth Coordinators will be contacting you prior to your appointment with instructions on how to access the Telehealth appointment. We encourage you to enlist the help of a family member or caregiver if you are unsure of the technology requirements for a Telehealth visit. Please remember elderly patients with cardiac conditions are particularly at risk should they become infected with COVID-19, stay safe and practice social and physical distancing. We strongly discourage you from putting off this visit since there will be a significant demand once we return to regular office visits in the future.

Virginia Heart is now scheduling Telehealth appointments by FaceTime and Zoom, depending on device preference. To make a Telehealth appointment with a Virginia Heart provider, please follow either of the below steps:

 1. Visit the webpage, Make An Appointment.  Fill out the request form for a new appointment and in the ‘Reason for your appointment’ category, select ‘other’ and write in “Telehealth”.

 2. Call 703.621.4501 and ask to schedule a Telehealth appointment.

Important Information Regarding COVID-19 From Virginia Heart

Information about the new coronavirus (COVID-19) is rapidly changing. At Virginia Heart we have recently adjusted our guidelines and policies to ensure the safety of our patients, their families and our staff. 

Virginia Heart has implemented a symptoms-based approach to care. Any patients or staff who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, which includes fever, cough, or shortness of breath cannot come to a Virginia Heart location and should reschedule their appointment. In addition, if you have been in close contact with a COVID-19 confirmed patient or reside in a nursing home or long term care facility or have traveled internationally, we are respectfully asking for you to reschedule your appointment. Unlike a hospital setting, we cannot accept acutely ill patients into our offices. Patients should expect medical screening questions and their temperature to be taken upon entry to our offices.  

In order for us to still be able to serve our patients during this pandemic, we have implemented a process for existing patients to be able to request a telemedicine visit by either telephone alone, or a video and audio appointment via either a smart phone or computer. To request a telemedicine visit with a Virginia Heart provider, please either call our office at 703.621.4501 OR fill out the Request an Appointment Form (link on website) and enter “Telephone Visit” or “Video Visit” in the ‘Other’ box for the reason for appointment. 

Virginia Heart is asking that all non-urgent, routine appointments be rescheduled for a later date or switched to a telemedicine Visit. 

Virginia Heart intends to remain open and we will continue to treat our patients either virtually or in the office depending on the circumstance of each patient. 

To better protect our patients and staff, we are requesting that all patients only bring one primary companion with them into any Virginia Heart location. 

Virginia Heart is continuing to monitor the evolving situation and we will continue to follow the World Health Organization (WHO) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) for updates and directives. We have strong relationships in place at local hospitals to make sure our policies and procedures meet or exceed their guidelines along with those at WHO and CDC. The cleanliness and sterilization of our office is of the utmost importance to us with or without the threat of a virus. All of our staff members have been trained and are currently following CDC guidelines to sanitize the office before and after each patient.

As a valued patient of Virginia Heart, we appreciate the trust you place in us and our clinical team to provide you the best cardiovascular care possible.

In the current environment, it is important for all of us to take the necessary precautions to ensure our health. That’s why I want to personally update you on the situation with COVID-19 and the necessary steps we are taking as an organization to ensure your health and safety during your visits to our practice.

Specific to the virus, we are following the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for updates and directives. We have strong relationships in place at local hospitals to make sure our policies and procedures meet or exceed their guidelines along with those at WHO and CDC.

The cleanliness and sterilization of our office is of the utmost importance to us with or without the threat of a virus. All of our staff members have been trained and are currently following CDC guidelines to sanitize the office before and after each patient.

Please be advised that if you are experiencing any upper respiratory symptoms to include a fever or cough and have traveled internationally, or have been in contact with someone who has traveled internationally we respectfully ask you to reschedule your appointment. In general, even without other symptoms, if you have a fever for any reason, please do not come to the office, call us.
